A R Rehman – A True Magician

For me a magician is the one who can do something amazing and unbelievable and someone who can win hearts by his work. A.R. Rehman, one of the best music composers the world has ever seen, is a true magician who has won millions of hearts with his music. I was 5 years old when I first came under his spell. Then one of his best works, Roja, was released and I used to go crazy singing the songs without even understanding the lyrics. I have grown up humming his songs from Roja, Bombay, Rangeela, Taal, Saathiya to Rang De Basanthi, Guru, Jodha Akhbar, Ghajini and now Slumdog Millionaire and Delhi6. Best thing about his music is that he comes out each time with a completely new, different and excellent piece of work.

His music gets even better when he sings for India. His songs like “Vandemataram……”, “Bharat Hum ko jaan se pyaara……”, “Desh mere Desh mere……” and “Swades” still make every Indian feel proud of his country and throw in loads of patriotism. He even used his music for social causes with songs like “Pray for me brother” which is an initiative by the A.R. Rahman Foundation to collect funds for the UN Millennium Development Program aimed at eradicating poverty by the year 2015. His latest song “Jiya Se Jiya” is a tribute to the terror hit city of Mumbai and spreading the message of embracing everyone irrespective of their religion, region or language.

And today he stands tall above every one in the world holding the golden lady in hand making India proud of his achievements. Though he deserved the Oscar long time back, this has come at a right time for him and for India when he is at peak of his career and when India is in a hurry making its mark on almost everything in the world.

Let’s hope that this maestro gives us even better music in future and win more accolades all over the world.
